Don’t Cry, Dancing Girls

“Don’t Cry, Dancing Girls,” an original Taiwanese musical, hits its first Off-Broadway debut in January 2025.

The musical explores how an implicit Taiwanese household was forced to return to their family trauma after the father’s death. Also weaves Daoist and Buddhist rituals, Taiwanese folk traditions, and folk-rock melody.

The crew, including VMTheatre Company CEO Tsung-Jen Hou, Director Hui-Cheng Tseng, and Producer Yi-Heng Lin, sat down before its premiere to share the excitement, creative processes, and, of course, struggles.
